  1. Record-Breaking Weekend for GB Wheelchair Basketball

Record-Breaking Weekend for GB Wheelchair Basketball

This past weekend saw a historic weekend for Great Britain’s Wheelchair Basketball teams with the men emerging victorious against the USA, whilst the women fell just short in the final and the Netherlands in the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship finals in Hamburg.

The GB Men defeated the Rio Paralympic champions for their first global gold medal, claiming a 79-62 win over the USA.  The men had gone down 66-59 to the USA in the pool stages but 17 points apiece for George Bates and Harry Brown saw them avenge that defeat in the showpiece. Sunday’s showdown was the third time the USA and Great Britain battled for the world title. The US came out on top in the previous ones, in 1994 and 2002.

  2. Kyle Anderson in conversation with Stuart Pyke

Kyle Anderson talks one-on-one with Stuart Pyke whilst in Brisbane for the World Series. In this exclusive interview for Unicorn Darts, Kyle discusses some the health issues which are impacting on his game.

What also shines through is the importance of his family and how much it meant to him to have his son around him in Brisbane. Clearly there are still decisions to be made about his family living in Australia whilst professional darts keeps him UK based.

Although he is still motivated and committed to his chosen profession, this very personal interview looks behind the glamour of professional darts and examines some of the challenges that Kyle faces trying to fulfil his ambitions.

A great insight into the life of one of the most popular players on the darts circuit.

At Powerglide we pride ourselves on the quality of our hand-made cues, but sometimes it’s nice to hear from those who know more about what a professional-standard player looks for in a cue.We sent John a few cues to try out recently, two of which were 3/4 joint cues and the other was a two piece, or 50/50, cue.

  5. Super Seigo looking good for Ally Pally!

Team Unicorn Japanese star Seigo Asada looks a shoe in to qualify for the World Championship.

He is a sporting superstar in Asia and another big win on the PDC Asia Tour looks to have cemented his place at the Alexandra Palace.

He won in South Korea earlier in the year and his latest victory in Malaysia has seen him rewrite the darting record books.

Asada’s average of 107.60 is the highest ever on the Asian Tour. It came in his sefinal win over Lourence Ilagan and the Unicorn ace then beat Royden Lam 5-4 in a thrilling final.

Four players from the Asian Tour will secure spots at the World Championship and Seigo is in second place in the Order of Merit behind Ilagan who claimed victory in the second event in Malaysia, with a 5-1 victory over Harith Lam.

There are four more tournaments spread over two weekends in Taipei next month and then Manila in October.

But for Asada, the road to the Alexandra Palace looks to be clear!

    It’s all White!

Ian White has extended his stay with Team Unicorn.

The popular 48-year-old has penned a new deal as he bids to turn on the style in the big TV tournaments.

The World No.13 has been frustrated by one stat....he’s never been past the quarter-finals of a PDC ‘Major’

“It does annoy me because I know I have the game to win a TV tournament. It isn’t for lack of hard work that’s for sure,” he said.

“The other big aim this year is to get into the world’s top 10. That would be a great achievement for me.”

In 2018 White has won two more events and hit a 9 darter in the Pro Tour.

  9. World Series over for Unicorn duo

There was no joy in Brisbane for Gary and Kyle Anderson.

The Unicorn pair bowed out at the quarter-final stage of the Brisbane Darts Masters on Saturday night.

Gary lost focus and concentration in the middle of his quarter-final. He was coasting at 5-1 ahead against Raymond van Barneveld and there were no signs of what was to come as he lost 10-8.

Kyle was never really in the game against Michael van Gerwen as he went down 10-3.

Gary was in total control. He also missed one dart at the bull to go 6-1 in front and then it all changed. Van Barneveld got back to within one, then Garry missed three darts to move 6-4 up.

His scoring dropped off and somehow the Dutchman managed to win six straight legs. It really was an unlikely comeback.

Barneveld hit seven 180s in nine legs and Anderson couldn’t find a way to break throw. A 100 finish on D19 kept him in it but that 7th maximum helped the Dutchman to the win.

    Kyle never recovered

  10. Both Andersons win in Brisbane!

Gary and Kyle Anderson won through to the quarter-finals of the first ever Brisbane Darts Masters.

But there was disappointment for Team Unicorn stablemate Michael Smith, who was sent packing on Friday night at the BCEC.

It was a big performance from Kyle Anderson, who has been struggling all year with diabetes related problems which have affected his vision. By the way, there will be a big interview with Kyle coming very soon on the website. Watch this space!

From 1-2 down against fellow Aussie Barry Gardner, Kyle produced arguably his best five straight legs of darts in months. He hit six perfect darts in one leg, produced some terrific finishing, two 11 dart legs and four 180s in all as he raced to a 6-2 victory and will now face Michael van Gerwen.

Gary was made to scrap again by Aussie Damon Heta. The Unicorn man was coasting at 3-0 and was sat on 32 to make it 4-0 before Heta took out a series of finishes, including a superb 152 to force a deciding
